FSSAI registration is a mandatory requirement for anyone involved in the food business in India, including manufacturers, traders, restaurants, food trucks, and even small food sellers. FSSAI stands for the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, which is a government body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It ensures the safety and quality of food products across the country.

The primary objective of FSSAI registration is to protect public health by regulating and supervising food safety. The FSSAI issues a 14-digit license or registration number that must be printed on all food packages. This number provides legal assurance to consumers that the food product meets all safety standards.

There are three types of FSSAI licenses based on the size and nature of the business: Basic Registration, State License, and Central License. Small food businesses with an annual turnover of up to ₹12 lakh typically require basic registration.

The registration process involves submitting Form A or B, identity proof, business details, and food safety plans. Once approved, the registration is valid for 1 to 5 years and must be renewed before expiry.
